D&AD DCM - Submission

This is the information we submitted for the D&AD award. Hopefully it makes sense and the video works. The Development video is too large to upload so it will be burnt on a CD for academic submission.

Brief description
The brief appealed to us instantly as we are both avid cinemagoers, with a passion for film.

From repeatedly reading the brief we felt our approach should be primarily human, including cinemagoers of all ages, everywhere.

Pre-production and post-production relied upon narrative in apposed to digital effects, a route we decided upon instantly according to personal taste.

Emotion being subjective, we expressed a range of feelings in a short period. The submission was all about getting people involved in film/filmmaking, possibly driving a new DCM campaign via social media taking the concept from Leeds and making it universal.

The White Pencil
Although our entry doesn’t physically reduce emissions or cut green house gases, it does encourage creativity. It could help people identify a career in film both early and later in life. It further gives an opportunity to people everywhere to be involved in film/filmmaking and potentially give somebody a chance to be recognised by DCM or other companies within the film industry. The concept also gives people in the UK a short perspective into the lives of others.

Basic film cameras are easily available through mobile phones so everybody has the chance to get involved.
