End of Year Show - Initial Ideas

Working with Sam Lane and Christopher Shuttleworth, we started working on potential concepts to apply to the end of year show.

In the brief they stated that they were wanting something different to what they had previously chosen. As number of submissions are not restricted per group we will submit multiple routes that vary in 'safeness' and 'riskyness' to broaden our chances of being chosen.

The Four main routes that we got from brainstorming were:

Breaking through -
Puncturing the poster, breaking into industry, into the world etc.

Lonely arts -
Selling students, lonely hearts pages style.

Now Showing (Cinema)
Reveal,

Grim up North
Change to 'great up north'

Tutorial

After speaking to Simon Jones and discussing potential concepts and routes of approaching the brief we started to realise the Grim up North concept was the strongest. We developed the idea of changing the the 'Grim' to 'Great' by using a graffiti edit.

The concept visually is to change the meaning by straying over the grim. This could create unique posters and also intensify the meaning of grim with the connotations graffitis has. By changing the negative meaning to a positive statement it sums up the philosophy of the college and the north.
